Pierre Lumeau - Getting into the mind of a Deputy Legal Director of a Unicorn

If you are a lawyer and you are wondering why legal directors never call you back, it's probably because you never took the time to put yourself in their shoes.
At Ourama, we decided to correct that.
In our final episode of the podcast The Cheat Code, we received Pierre Lumeau, former lawyer, now Associate General Counsel at Contentsquare, where he manages the M&A operations and corporate structuring of the group.
And we did what few lawyers take the time to do: listen What a CEO is looking for in his relationships with law firms.
Pierre's career path is anything but linear. He spent over eight years at FTPA, worked for Scotto Partners before joining Contentsquare.
A lawyer at heart, he liked business development, autonomy, and the position of independent advice. And yet, one day, a customer — Contentsquare — invites him to go to the other side. And there, a click: a product vision, a hypergrowing company, an environment where law is a strategic accelerator. Pierre says yes. Not to run away from the dress. But because he saw a rare opportunity: participate in the growth of a tech company from within, as close as possible to decisions.
Pierre's legal department is structured, competent, and well equipped to deal with a wide variety of topics internally. But when the issues multiply or the subjects become ultra-specific, they need reinforcement. There, almost no room: they are looking for lawyers from Very high level, or recognized on their market, or hyper-specialized on a specific problem. And the filter is twofold: technical quality, and the ability to enroll in a strict annual budget. Translation: each mission is examined, each billing method analyzed. You are not here to furnish, you are there to dispense — fast, well, and at the right price.
